The NWFP government has decided to purchase MRI and CT scan machines from Endowment Fund to be installed in the Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) to generate income, which would be spent on free health service to the needy and deserving patients suffering from the serious diseases. The decision to this effect was made in a meeting of the Endowment Committee held here with NWFP Health Minister Inayatullah in the chair.

The meeting participated by the provincial health secretary, the health director general, and other members of the committee deliberated over various schemes for generating income for endowment to make its flow of benefits vast and sustainable. As a first step, the committee approved installation of MRI and CT scan machines at the Khyber Teaching Hospital.

The meeting was informed that the 70 percent of the net income generated by these facilities would go to the Endowment Fund, 15 percent to Khyber Teaching Hospital, and 10 percent to the concerned staff.

It is worth mentioning that the provincial government had earlier announced establishment of an endowment fund of Rs 500 million to facilitate poor patients suffering from serious diseases.

The government had provided Rs 100 million for the fund so far, while efforts for another Rs 100 million were under way.

To ensure transparent and efficient utilisation of the funds, a committee comprising high-ranking officers, MPs, medical experts, and renowned figures of good reputation from various walks of the society has been constituted.
